Shannan E. McCann, MD

Biography
Dr. Shannan E. McCann is quadruple Board Certified in Dermatology, Pediatric Dermatology, Pediatrics, and Adolescent Medicine. She earned her Doctor of Medicine at James H. Quillen College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University in 2002, and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. McCann completed a residency in Pediatrics, a fellowship in Adolescent Medicine, and a residency in Dermatology through the Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium in San Antonio. She finished a fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology at Texas Children’s Hospital through the Baylor College of Medicine in 2018 to become the first Pediatric Dermatologist ever in the United States Air Force. As the sole pediatric dermatologist in the Department of Defense, she consulted on military children worldwide and advised the Air Force, Army, and Navy dermatology consultants to the US Surgeon Generals on pediatric dermatology issues. She retired from the military in 2023.
From 2018-2023, she served as core faculty for one of the largest dermatology programs in the nation, training Dermatology and Pediatric residents. She was honored in 2022 when selected for the Distinguished Dermatology Faculty Award in recognition of her commitment to teaching and mentoring. She has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of skin conditions in adults and children, and is skilled in lasers, cosmetics, and surgical procedures.
Her academic appointments have included Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and adjunct Assistant Professor at both Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, written textbook chapters, and lectured at major conferences internationally and nationally. She is a member of multiple organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, Texas Dermatological Society, Texas Medical Association, Society of Pediatric Dermatology, and American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. McCann is passionate about community service, as illustrated by her leadership in humanitarian missions in Vietnam, Honduras, and Moldova and her volunteer work at a student-run clinic at the University of Texas Health Science Center. The American Academy of Dermatology presented her with the “Members Making a Difference Award” in 2025.
Dr. McCann has been happily married for over 25 years and has two children. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, attending church, traveling, and gardening.
